The stock image libraries of Hong Kong are populated with neon signs, a sight that has greeted locals and tourists for a long timeframe. However, Hong Kong government has deemed the neon signs as “illegal” nowadays. During the 70s, 80s and 90s most of the signs have been handcrafted by masters. They have been produced by injecting glass pipes with a gas that surged to colorful life when electrified. The technology fused with the graphic typographies of the Chinese language. It is special, colourful and unique.
